IB TOK: What are the knowledge questions in ethics?

In TOK ethics you might ask knowledge questions such as ‘How do we know if right and wrong are the same as good manners; how far is ethics a matter of social convention?’ or we might ask ‘Are all ethical rules a product of our culture?’ or ‘How do we know if an action is right or wrong?’ This real life example demonstrates a dog saving another dog that’s been injured on the highway. You might consider the implications this has for human actions; under what circumstances might we help another person? You might also consider how far we might use different ways of knowing (reason, emotion, or language etc) as a source of knowledge in ethics? You could ask the knowledge question, ‘To what extent do we consider reason more than emotion when we judge what the right thing to do is?’
